Interview Questions

These questions are our starting point, not a script. We’re looking for quick, natural sound bites, not long stories or prepared speeches. We may ask a few follow-up questions to help bring out a memory or feeling. We keep it relaxed and brief. Each interview usually takes about five to eight minutes. The bigger challenge is finding that little window in the day and getting each person aside for a few quiet minutes.

Please let your wedding party and anyone you’d like interviewed know this is part of the day. When we come to get them, we’ll need them to join us then. Those quiet windows are short, and if someone isn’t available, we may not get another chance to interview them.

We interview people individually during preparations, since that’s generally our only opportunity before the day gets moving. As each bridesmaid finishes hair and makeup, we’ll pull her aside while the others continue getting ready. Wedding attire isn’t necessary; pajamas or getting-ready clothes are fine. Just choose something you’re happy to have appear in the finished film.

For the guys, we’ll find those same short windows during preparations. Please ask them to arrive in a clean, presentable shirt they’re comfortable being filmed in. They don’t need to be in suits yet, but their getting-ready clothes may appear in the finished film.

A note for parents: If you’d like to be interviewed, please plan to be present during preparations, with time to spare before the ceremony. Arriving just before the ceremony may mean we miss the chance to record your words.

For the couple: Please leave five to eight minutes for each of your own interviews, too. We’ll work them into preparations as opportunities open up. If you’d prefer to finish hair and makeup first, plan for it to be completed early enough to leave that interview window before dressing and the next scheduled events.

We’ll also need a quiet spot away from music, conversation and getting-ready activity, so your words can be heard clearly in the finished film.
